It is located along the scenic southern-most part of California's Central Pacific Coast on between Malibu & Santa Barbara, just an hour's drive from Los Angeles and Hollywood. It is often referred to as the Gold Coast and has a reputation of being one of the safest populated places and one of the most affluent places in the country. It is ranked as one of the 100 highest-income counties in the country and as the sixth wealthiest county in California by per capita income. The county has a total area of 2,208.20 square miles and its elevation runs from sea level to 8,831 feet above sea level. As of the 2010 census, the county had a population of 823,318. With a Mediterranean climate, its year round daytime temperatures average 70 degrees F (21 degrees C).  Early Spanish settlers dubbed Ventura the "land of endless summers". The various charming communities are found along California's coastline, each with its own special qualities.
